Title: Fracture of the lower end of the humerus
Description: Five figures showing fractures (breaks) to the lower end of the humerus (the bone of the upper arm). Figures 1a and 1b show the right elbow of a child who sustained severe injury through an accident with machinery. Figure 2 shows a fracture caused by a gunshot. In both of these cases amputation was required. The accompanying text describes the injuries shown in each of the illustrations. The section of text this image is taken from deals with many types of fracture to the lower end of the humerus, and uses these illustrations and others as examples. It offers instruction on diagnosis, symptoms, treatment (which could include traction), and possible complications. The rest of the book deals with a wide range of fractures and dislocations.
